Every summer, the Indian Ocean monsoon sweeps over the Dhofar mountains in southern Oman, transforming the desert into a lush green landscape of waterfalls, lakes, and mist-covered mountains. Temperatures drop to a magical 18–24°C while the rest of the Gulf bakes above 45°C. The crown jewel of Khareef. A deep green valley with a stunning lake, roaring waterfall (Khareef only), lush plateaus with grazing camels, and pink flamingos. The drive through the wadi is spectacular. One of the most dramatic coastlines in Arabia — white sand beach with towering limestone cliffs. The natural blowholes shoot jets of water 8–10 meters high. During Khareef, thick mist rolls off the sea creating an ethereal atmosphere. The ancient Land of Frankincense — UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wadi Dawkah has the world's only protected frankincense tree forest.
